Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) may also be called Independent Medical Assessments. The purpose of an IME is for a specialist, who is not the patient's usual treating doctor,
to undertake an objective evaluation and to answer any questions asked by the referring agent.
IME's may be requested by a variety of agents including personal lawyers, employers, WorkCover, and insurance agencies.
